We headed for Corniglia which is supposed to be the least attractive and the smallest and quietest out of the 5 towns with a population of around 200. I liked it and it was quite quiet as it is only accessible by train and not by ferry as it is not really on the waterfront. From the train you can take a 15 minute walk up a lot of stairs and I mean a lot... Reportedly over 400 so Peter had the bright idea that we would walk up the road which twists and turns it's way up a very steep hill.... NOT A GOOD IDEA!!
We eventually hit the small quaint town square where you guessed it we had a gelato. I am trying to restrict my intake to 2 scoops a day... I figure with all the walking we are doing that I can easily burn that off!! And you guessed it we took the stairs back to the station.
Next stop was Manarola.
Manarola also has a long tunnel from the train station and a very steep main street. The town itself fills a ravine, bookended by its little harbour. We walked to the very top to check out the church and the view which was worth it (I think).
