And after that what did we have to have, you guessed it a gelato!! Mine was hazelnut chocolate and mango. Feeling refreshed we decided to walk around the waterfront in the general direction of Portofino as that was our next stop. After some time when our feet were wanting time out we looked for a bus stop which just happened to be across the road. Whilst enjoying a well earned rest waiting for the bus a very nice girl took the time to let us know that the buses were on STRIKE!! Now what.... Feet can't go forward any further and no way they can go back all that way! The nice girl did offer to hail down a car, any car to get us to our destination but we declined and soldiered on till we flagged down a taxi. We said take us to the Hotel Splendido (upon Linda and Chris' recommendation) which was a whole 2 kilometres and 20 euros!!! It was worth every penny as these feet weren't going anywhere especially up the hill to the hotel.
What a beautiful hotel perched high on the hill with an amazing view over the water. A beer and a glass of Prosecco and 35 euros later we were off on foot again heading for the main part of Portofino. A beautiful little harbour side village with some amazing boats. We bussed it back (after the strike) to the station for our journey back to Monterosso.
Too tired to go out for dinner so takeaway lasagne (very yummy) back at the hotel as we had to drink up all our wine before leaving for Venice the next day.
