Tuesday 3rd September

Naples
Today we had a private tour organised.  The plan was for the 8 of us to meet at 7.30am to meet our tour guide, Art and then head for Herculaneum early before the crowds and heat.  We were actually the first car in the carpark and first into this historical site.  Herculaneum was discovered in 1709, part of the 79 AD eruption on Versuvius and was buried under 20m of mud and debri.  They say because the cover was mainly mud this helped preserve the village.  Another interesting snippet is that they used urine to help remove stains from their clothes....  Herculaneum was very different to Pompeii but well worth it.
Next on the agenda was Positano.... pastel houses tumbling down the cliffs to a beach dotted with fishing boats.  I fell in love with Positano in 2008.  Take me back!!!!  Nothing much had changed except the friends we shared it with the first time.....aww...
We then proceeded to Sorrento where we had more time which lead us to a bar and the supermarket to replenish our in room bar.  Sorrento was a lot more touristy then Positano and in my opinion over rated.   After this we were homeward bound to the Dawn.  Another great day of good company and great scenery.... what more could you ask for??  Next stop is Civitavecchia which is the closest port to Rome.
